Objectives and functions
- To promote the gathering of documentation on the contemporary history of Catalonia.
- To encourage research and to promote publications on the contemporary history of Catalonia.
- To build up a library and press archive specialising in the contemporary history of Catalonia and particularly the history of Catalanism.
The CHCC promotes and in some cases directs studies and research projects, and also records the memories of people recalling their experiences of the Civil War, the post-war years, the struggle against Franco and exile.
The support given by the CHCC to the publication of works on the contemporary history of Catalonia is particularly worthy of note. As a rule, the centre does not directly publish works itself but provides support to publishers that issue history books.
Library and documentation centre
When the CHCC moved to the Palau de Mar, its library merged with that of the Museum of the History of Catalonia.
As a centre that specialises in the contemporary history of Catalonia, its library is open to historians, researchers, educationalists, university students and the general public interested in history.
Furthermore, within the framework of the Museum of the History of Catalonia, the CHCC continues to offer advice on history and bibliography to professional individuals and institutions to facilitate research into aspects of the history of Catalonia outside of any specific academic studies in order to enable such work and its results to be made more widely known.
